Are you interested in learning about how ASTRO Councils are structured and how you can get more involved with ASTRO committees? Well grab a cup of coffee and stop on by! New this year, ASTRO is hosting a Committee Fair during the Annual Meeting to answer these and other volunteer opportunity questions! Pick a table and chat with Council/Committee representatives in a fast-paced “speed mentoring-style" format to learn about the mission of that Council and the committees it supports and when the chime sounds, rotate to another table.
The Committee Fair will take place on Monday morning, September 30, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. in East Salon C. While this is the same location as the Early Career and Mentoring Lounge, the Committee Fair is open to all ASTRO Annual Meeting attendees, whether you’ve been in practice for one year or twenty.
Did you know:
- The ASTRO Board is made up of six Councils?
- There are 40 committees that carry out the goals of the Society, not to mention the various work groups, task forces, resource panels and editorial boards?
- Nearly 2,000 volunteers are engaged in committee work?
ASTRO President-elect Sameer Keole, MD, FASTRO, will kick-off the Career Fair with a brief overview of the volunteer and selection process, e.g., when the call for volunteers occurs, volunteer requirements, staff liaison and committee chair responsibilities, committee terms, etc.
Moving into the breakout period, tables will be designated for each council, one for standing committees and one for the Radiation Oncology Institute – ASTRO’s Foundation. A Council/Committee/Foundation representative(s) will serve as host for each table. Each rotation will last 12 minutes before you will be prompted to move to another table. If you stay for the entire hour, you will have the opportunity to visit four tables. So, be sure to come in with your top four choices and maybe a backup or two to ensure you acquire the info you’re looking for!
