Continuing Certification Overview
Continuing Certification (MOC) is an integral part of the quality movement in health care. Patients, your physician peers and your colleagues all value Continuing Certification (MOC) because it demonstrates your support for continuous quality improvement, professional development and quality patient care. The ABR believes in the value of Continuing Certification (MOC). Therefore, all ABR volunteers, including governors and trustees, are required to participate in Continuing Certification (MOC).
Every diplomate electing to participate in the Continuing Certification (MOC) program is expected to meet all requirements as listed below. The four parts of Continuing Certification (MOC) are:
- Part 1: Professionalism and Professional Standing
- Part 2: Lifelong Learning
- Part 3: Assessment of Knowledge, Judgment, and Skills
- Part 4: Improvement in Medical Practice

Continuing Medical Education
What is Continuing Medical Education (CME)?
CME is an educational tool designed to help keep physicians current with new technology and scientific advances and to continue efforts to increase accessibility to evolving evidence-based medicine. CME meets the Part 2: Lifelong Learning requirement of the ABR's Continuing Certification Program.
ASTRO is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
What is Self-Assessment CME (SA-CME)?
Effective 2024, "self-assessment" is achieved through ABR Online Longitudinal Assessment and is not required when obtaining CME.
Self-Assessment CME are educational activities that utilize instruction and self-administered examination to improve skills, knowledge, patient care and/or practice performance. SA-CME meets the Part 2: Lifelong Learning requirement of the ABR's Continuing Certification Program. ASTRO is awarded Deemed Status by the American Board of Radiology to provide SA-CME as part of Part II Maintenance of Certification.

ASTRO-ABR Credit Gateway
What is the ASTRO-ABR Credit Gateway?
The ASTRO-ABR Credit Gateway allows an ABR diplomate to directly transfer credits earned from ASTRO's educational activities to their MyABR account. Participants of ASTRO's meetings and online learning can easily transfer their CME and SA-CME credits from ASTRO to the ABR. To do so, participants will need to establish a one-time connection called the ASTRO-ABR Credit Gateway. Once established, credits earned by a diplomate will automatically be sent to the ABR once daily.
How do I establish the ASTRO-ABR MOC Credit Gateway?
- Log in to the MyASTRO portal.
- Click on the ABR Gateway link under My Education.
- Click on the link "Establish the ASTRO-ABR Credit Gateway today!"
- Enter your ABR username and password.
- Click the "Transfer" button to establish the connection between ASTRO and the ABR.
- The gateway may take up to 24 hours to complete the initial credit transfer.
