Journal Activities

red journal cover

Journal Activities are based on articles from ASTRO's three top-notch journals. The International Journal of Radiation Oncology • Biology • Physics, also known as the Red Journal, focuses on cutting-edge prospective clinical research. Its companion journal, Practical Radiation Oncology, publishes research such as guidelines and white papers that will make an impact in your practice today. Our newest journal, Advances in Radiation Oncology, focuses on important retrospective work, clinical trial reanalyses, survey analyses and case reports.

Check out the following Journal Activities in the ASTRO Academy:

  • Journal Articles with Credit
These activities provide select articles from each of ASTRO's journals along with continuing medical education credit. Access is free for ASTRO members.

  • Gray Zone
Available to ASTRO members only and complimentary, Gray Zone activities present a difficult or controversial clinical case along with continuing medical education credit. The controversy could involve optimal workup, clinical or radiologic interpretation, sequencing or choice of therapies, or technical considerations in surgical or radiotherapy approaches. After each case, participants will be able to read the management plans favored by a few specialists in that particular field and participate in a poll on their treatment recommendation.

  • Red Journal Oncology Scans
Red Journal Oncology Scans serve to crystallize the best practices for the disease sites commonly encountered in a busy radiation oncology clinic by summarizing the latest research and evidence, and serve to provide the clinician with insight into emerging trends in the field of radiation oncology. Red Journal Oncology Scans offer continuing medical education credit and are discounted for ASTRO members.
