ASTRO Guideline on External Beam Radiation Therapy for Palliation of Symptomatic Bone Metastases
Published: Web posted May 2024
This guideline addresses five key questions regarding palliative external beam radiation therapy (RT) in symptomatic bone metastases. It provides updated guidance on dose fractionation and techniques of delivery of RT in the upfront and irradiation settings. Recommendations address symptom relief, multimodality treatment, dosing regimens and advanced techniques. This guideline replaces ASTRO's 2017 guideline on palliative radiation therapy for bone metastases.
The guideline is based on a systematic review and analysis prepared by an evidence-based practice center on behalf of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).
