Amar Rewari, MD, MBA, FASTRO, appointed Health Policy Council Vice-chair

ASTRO’s Board of Directors has appointed Amar Rewari, MD, MBA, FASTRO, to serve as the Vice-chair of the Health Policy Council. Dr. Rewari will complete the remaining term of Vivek Kavadi, MD, MBA, FASTRO, who was recently appointed ASTRO CEO.

Dr. Rewari currently serves as the Chief of Radiation Oncology for Luminis Health, an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and Chair of the Cancer Committee for the DeCesaris Cancer Institute.

Dr. Rewari is a national leader in the field of radiation oncology health policy. He was a member of the inaugural class of the ASTRO Health Policy Fellowship. After completing the fellowship, Dr. Rewari immersed himself in the work of the American Medical Association (AMA) Resource Based Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC) which led to his appointment as ASTRO’s RUC Advisor. Dr. Rewari also serves as Chair of the Code Development and Valuation Committee (CDVC), ASTRO Corporate Relations Committee Vice-Chair, and ASTRO Corporate Advisory Council Vice-Chair. Prior to his appointment to the ASTRO Board, Dr. Rewari served as the ASTRO Health Policy Committee Chair and Radiation Oncology Economics Committee Chair for the American College of Radiology (ACR).

Dr. Rewari graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in political science from Temple University. He received his MD and MBA degrees from Yale University School of Medicine and Yale University School of Management and stayed at Yale-New Haven Hospital to complete an Internal Medicine internship. He attended Rutgers University for his radiation oncology residency, during which time he was named Chief Resident, received the Dean’s Research Award, and ASTRO’s highest award for clinical research at their annual meeting.
