The Senate HELP Committee held a long-anticipated confirmation hearing for Dr. Bertagnolli as NIH Director, ultimately voting 15-6 that the full Senate support her nomination. ASTRO joined more than a dozen partners as part of the Cancer Leadership Council in sending a letter, Cancer Leadership Council endorses Bertagnolli as NIH Director, championing Dr. Bertagnolli’s professional and personal experience in anticipation of the Committee’s hearing. Appointed National Cancer Institute (NCI) Director in 2022, she has collaborated with a spectrum of cancer stakeholders during her tenure, making her exceptionally well qualified to lead NIH today and into the future. NIH is currently operating under Acting Director Lawrence A. Tabak, DDS, PhD, but ASTRO looks forward to speedy action by the full Senate chamber to confirm Dr. Bertagnolli as NIH Director.
