House holds hearing on transparency in health care, site-neutral payments

May 2, 2023

In a House Energy and Commerce Committee Health subcommittee hearing on bills related to health care payments, members questioned panelists on price transparency and site-neutral payments and other issues. In the first session, featuring CMS Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure, members focused largely on PBMs and drug-price transparency but also highlighted the role of transparency in preserving access to care.

In the second session featuring panelists from stakeholder groups, members asked more questions regarding the impact of site-neutral payment policies on health care costs and access. A couple questions also highlighted the potential for value-based payment systems to support innovation, particularly in cancer care.

Overall, the hearing showed Congress’ appetite for tackling health care issues with long-term solutions that will help preserve access to care for patients while improving transparency and providing stability for providers. As Congress continues this work, ASTRO remains committed to educating members on potential impacts to radiation oncology and collaborating on solutions that create lasting stability in reimbursement and access while fueling innovation.
