CMS issues Enhancing Oncology Model (EOM)
June 29, 2022
On June 27, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued the Enhancing Oncology Model (EOM), which replaces the Oncology Care Model (OCM) that is set to expire this month. EOM is a total cost of care model which includes all Part A, Part B and certain Part D services. Similar to OCM, an episode of care is triggered with chemotherapy infusion through a six-month period, which could include radiation therapy services.
The EOM does not include a defined role for radiation oncology, which is of concern given the important role that radiation therapy plays in cancer treatment. Read ASTRO’s summary on the EOM for additional details.
