ASTRO and medical societies ask Congress to mitigate clinical labor cuts

March 1, 2022

In a March 1 letter to congressional leaders, ASTRO and more than 20 medical societies asked Congress to help specialties negatively impacted by cuts associated with updated clinical labor prices under the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS). While phased-in over four years, community-based radiation oncologists are already experiencing these cuts in 2022, and ASTRO is working with others to add new funding to offset the clinical labor cuts. The letter notes that practices that treat medically complex patients are most at-risk from the cuts. ASTRO is actively advocating with Congress to address the reductions as part of a government funding bill in the works, or at least by the end of 2022. The societies have also compiled an issue brief on the clinical labor cuts.
