Comments needed on Gliomas guideline, Seed Grants and Scientific Challenges, NRC Commissioner

Last call! Comment period extended to January 20 for Grade 4 Gliomas draft guideline
ASTRO needs your feedback on the draft guideline on Radiation Therapy for WHO Grade 4 Diffuse Glioma (replacing the 2016 Glioblastoma Guideline). The scope of the guideline is to provide updated recommendations on RT for patients with grade 4 adult-type diffuse glioma including diagnosis and treatment, integration of molecular markers, advanced imaging techniques and novel therapeutics. Please review the guideline and submit comments by Monday, January 20.

We're thrilled to announce the upcoming ASTRO Residents/Fellows Radiation Oncology Seed Grants, designed to support innovative research projects at their early stages. This year, the funding amount for ASTRO Seed Grants has increased from $25,000 to $50,000. Please check out the Request for Proposals for details. Join the ASTRO-AstraZeneca SCLC Therapy Challenge 2025
This initiative, in partnership with AstraZeneca's externally sponsored research, aims to foster innovative research in multimodality combination therapies for Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC). By supporting collaborative efforts and advancing radiation oncology leadership, the challenge provides a unique opportunity to drive scientific discovery and improve treatment outcomes for SCLC patients. Applications will be accepted February 14 through April 30, 2025. New Blog – Learn more about ASTRO’s new public awareness campaign, RT in Focus
ASTRO recently launched a new online public education campaign, Radiation Therapy in Focus (RT in Focus), a multi-pronged online effort. RT in Focus is designed to help people feel less overwhelmed upon receiving a diagnosis of cancer, and to learn about the benefits of radiation therapy and help them make an informed treatment decision. Nominations and applications are now open for 2025 ASTRO Recognition Awards
The nomination period for the prestigious ASTRO Gold Medal is now underway. Every year, ASTRO honors up to three individuals with its most esteemed award, paying tribute to their outstanding contributions to the field of radiation oncology. Nomination letters must be submitted by April 11.

Additionally, applications for the 2025 ASTRO Fellow designation are currently being accepted. Last year, ASTRO inducted its second-largest class of fellows since the program's inception in 2006! The final deadline to submit applications and all required materials is May 2.

Matthew Marzano sworn in as NRC Commissioner
On January 8, 2025, Matthew J. Marzano, was sworn in as Nuclear Regulatory Commission Commissioner, filling the last open seat on the Commission. His term expires June 30, 2028. Mr. Marzano most recently served as an Idaho National Laboratory detailee on the Senate Energy and Public Works Committee where he advised the committee on policy matters relating to clean air, climate and energy.
