Annual Meeting Spotlight: Keynotes
Don’t forget to add our two keynote speakers to your schedule on the Annual Meeting Portal. On Monday, September 30, at 9:15 a.m., Bryan Sexton, PhD, the Director of the Duke Center for Healthcare Safety and Quality, will present “The Science of Bite-Sized Well-Being during Uncertain Times: Evidence, Practice and Resources to Share.” Then on Tuesday, October 1, at 9:15 a.m., Danielle Ofri, MD, PhD, a primary care internist at Bellevue Hospital and one of the foremost voices in the medical world today, will present “Surviving Medicine in the 21st Century.” Learn more about the keynote speakers along with other meeting highlights. New this year! ASTRO 2024 Committee Fair
Are you interested in learning about how ASTRO Councils and committees are structured and how to get more involved with ASTRO committees? New this year, ASTRO is hosting a Committee Fair to answer your questions! Stop by to talk with Council and committee representatives in a fast-paced “speed mentoring-style" format and learn more about what the different committees do for the Society and how you can get involved. Annual Meeting presenter previews
The ASTRO 2024 scientific program includes more than 2,000 abstracts presented in a variety of formats including Scientific Sessions, Science Highlights, Quick Pitch and Poster Q&As. View these videos from ASTRO 2024 presenters to get a quick preview on their research.
 
New webinar series offerings
It’s not too late to register for the latest webinars from the ASTRO Academy. The six-part series, Expanding the Scope of Radiation Therapy for Nonmalignant Diseases, began August 28 and runs through October 9. Registration includes all the sessions onDemand, so you can join the remaining sessions live and watch past sessions onDemand.

On October 28, we launch the three-part webinar series, Definitive and Salvage Radiation Therapy for Prostate Cancer. These sessions will discuss how to work in multidisciplinary teams to provide the highest level of care for patients with localized and oligometastatic prostate cancer.

 

ASTRO launches ROCR Act digital ad campaign

On September 9, ASTRO launched a digital ad campaign to generate awareness, support and grassroots engagement on the Radiation Oncology Case Rate (ROCR) Act (S. 4330/HR 8404) on Capitol Hill. Digital ads will target members of Congress and their staff in Washington, DC, urging cosponsorship of the ROCR Act throughout September.

Meanwhile, we are encouraging members and Annual Meeting attendees to contact their members of Congress in support of the legislation via ASTRO’s easy-to-use grassroots system.

 
ASTRO submits comments on 2025 Medicare Payment System proposed rules
On September 5, ASTRO issued comments to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on the 2025 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule and Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System proposed rules focused on the need for reforms and responded to various policy proposals. National Cancer Institute proposes FY26 annual plan
On September 4, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) released its FY26 Annual Plan and Professional Judgement Budget Proposal, assessing that $11.5 billion in FY26 funding is needed to fully take advantage of recent scientific advancements and end cancer completely. The annual plan also illustrated how sustained investments would help support the goals of the National Cancer Plan. Check out a related What’s Happening in Washington for more details.
 
Learn about APEx during the Annual Meeting
Representatives of ASTRO’s APEx – Accreditation Program for Excellence® will be available during the Annual Meeting to discuss the benefits of becoming an APEx-accredited facility and talk with you more about our new radiopharmaceutical therapy accreditation. You are invited to: stop by the ASTRO Resource Center (East Salon A/B, Street Level) to meet with an APEx representative; attend EDU 17 - Elevating Excellence without the Extra Steps: APEx Insights and Innovative Strategies on Monday, September 30, at 8:00 a.m. in Room 140; and schedule a personalized one-on-one information session.
