ROCR bill introduced in Congress, ASTRO 2024 reg and housing open May 16, Call for volunteers

Breaking news: ROCR Value-Based Payment Program Act introduced in Congress
Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC), Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Jimmy Panetta (D-CA), John Joyce, MD (R-PA), and Paul Tonko (D-NY), today introduced the bipartisan Radiation Oncology Case Rate (ROCR) Value-Based Payment Program Act (S.4330, H.R.8404), which would help stabilize Medicare payments and improve upon already excellent care for cancer patients. Contact your representative and senators to cosponsor the ROCR Act today to advance it through Congress this year. Additionally, ASTRO thanks the organizations that support ROCR and encourages other organizations to fill out the ROCR support form.
 
ASTRO seeks public comments for updated IMRT Model Policy
ASTRO requests feedback on the draft of the updated IMRT Model Policy. ASTRO model policies are developed as a means to efficiently communicate what ASTRO believes to be correct coverage policies for radiation oncology services. The ASTRO model policies do not serve as clinical guidelines. Please review the document and submit comments through the webform by June 9. You can also access the draft guideline and webform at www.astro.org/PublicComment.
 
ASTRO 2024 registration opens tomorrow
Get ready for the premier radiation oncology meeting of the year! Registration and housing open tomorrow, May 16, at 11:00 a.m. Eastern time for the 2024 ASTRO Annual Meeting in Washington, DC. Register and book your housing early to have your first selections of choice DC hotels and take advantage of the Early-bird rates.
 
2024 Publication Awards – Nominate early career and trainee investigators
The Radiation Oncology Institute (ROI) and the Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology (ARRO) are accepting nominations of exceptional early career investigators who have recently published a high-impact article in a peer-reviewed journal. ROI will honor up to three Publication Excellence Award winners who have published a manuscript that addresses one or more of the ROI research priorities. A second award, the ARRO DEI Publication Award, will recognize a trainee investigator who has published on topics related to diversity, health equity and inclusion. Nominations are being accepted through a joint application site and are due July 5. Self-nominations are accepted. See the 2024 call for nominations for more information.

President-elect Sameer Keole, MD, FASTRO, encourages members to think of how one can volunteer for the field in this new ASTROblog post. Dr. Keole shares a myriad of concrete ways within ASTRO that we can give our time and effort to share knowledge, inspire change and help improve patient care through education, clinical practice and the advancement of science.

 
Next Med Student Q&A session May 29
The Communications Committee is continuing its successful and well-attended Medical Student Q&A series. Spread the word to encourage medical students to attend to learn more about a career in radiation oncology. No question is off limits! The next session will be held on May 29, hosted by radonc Christian Okoye, MD, and radonc resident Emily MacDuffie, MD.
