Registration open for Aspiring Scientists and Physicians Program |
Undergraduate, graduate and medical students interested in learning more about careers in radiation oncology and the radiation sciences should attend the 2024 Aspiring Scientists and Physicians Program (ASPP). This event provides an opportunity for students to meet and have lunch with radiation oncology faculty, residency program directors, physicists and residents to learn more about radiation oncology, cancer treatment and cancer research as they consider their career options. Students have the option to attend the in-person event or the livestreamed program. Please help us spread the word about this amazing opportunity for the next generation of potential radiation oncology scientists and physicians. The ASPP registration deadline is September 12. |

This webinar will take place October 23, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. Eastern time and will be led by Michelle Alonso-Basanta, MD, PhD. This ASTRO Academy webinar offers access to hands-on contouring practice on real cases in addition to a live webinar with time for Q&A. ASTRO members receive a discount and members-in-training and international members-in-training can register for free. Are you a radiation oncology resident interested in government relations, including congressional advocacy? If yes, ASTRO’s Government Relations (GR) Fellow program is for you. The GR Fellow will participate in advocacy meetings and functions, including meetings with members of Congress or their staff. The GR Fellow will also receive an Emerging Advocacy Grassroots Leader award for travel to Advocacy Day. Apply by August 23. |
Deadlines approaching for public comments: ASTRO radiopharmaceutical therapy safety white paper and compendium for DVH metrics |
Please provide feedback on the following:
Quality and Safety Considerations for Radiopharmaceutical Therapy: An ASTRO Safety White Paper (draft). This consensus-based document focuses on the initiation and maintenance of a therapeutic radiopharmaceutical program in radiation oncology, workflow considerations, and quality and patient safety considerations. Please review the document and submit comments via the webform through Sunday, August 18. Draft DVH metrics for targets and normal tissues for six disease sites: lung, head and neck, breast, prostate, rectal and liver. Each disease site can be reviewed individually. Please review and submit comments for one or more disease sites via the webform through Tuesday, August 20. |
Non-malignant Disease Task Force involvement application! |
ASTRO is initiating a task force on radiation therapy for non-malignant disease. ASTRO strives to avoid bias and to assemble diverse task forces with respect to race, ethnicity, gender, experience, practice setting and geographic location. To expand the pool of potential task force members, interested members may apply for consideration. The application deadline is TODAY, Wednesday, August 14, 2024. |

ASTRO in partnership with the RTOG Foundation supports one of the NRG Oncology's Health Equity Fellowships which are now open for applications! This program provides mentorship for early-stage radiation oncology researchers with a focus on diversity. Apply by September 20, 2024. Awards will be announced in October.
