Travel Grants

We recognize that radiation oncology residents and nurses are a crucial component of the specialty and its future. Therefore, to support resident and nurse attendance at Advocacy Day, ASTRO has created travel grants to defray participant costs.

To apply:

  • Write a 1-page letter explaining why attending Advocacy Day is important to advancing your career and radiation oncology.
  • Submit an accompanying letter from your program director recommending your attendance.*
  • Letters should be submitted together to Colin Whitney before the close of business on Monday March 28, 2022. Please note that both letters must be received by the deadline for your application to be considered.
  • Recipients will be notified via email by Friday April 11, 2022 and must confirm their participation by Friday April 15, 2022.

ASTRO staff and government relations council chairs will evaluate applicant letters and recommendations from program directors. For those applicants who are approved, ASTRO will provide a $400 grant to offset costs of attendance.

ASTRO will only award one grant per institution. Travel grant awardees will be recognized in an ASTRO press release prior to Advocacy Day.

Due to their leadership positions, voting members of the ARRO Executive Committee travel costs are covered and are exempt from the application process.

Residents and nurses who want to attend Advocacy Day but do not receive a travel grant are still encouraged to participate.

*Nurses do not need to submit a letter from their program/department director
