Equity and Inclusion Subcommittee Mentorship Program
The ARRO Equity and Inclusion Subcommittee (EISC) is excited to kick off its Annual Mentorship Program starting in July. In our ongoing commitment to fostering diversity, equity and inclusion within our field, we proudly present this mentorship initiative tailored to individuals with careers or interests in these critical areas. These include, but are not limited to, underrepresented groups in medicine, health disparity and equity interests.

This comprehensive program consists of mentor-mentee pairing with a commitment of at least six months, to provide participants with a structured and supportive environment to engage in meaningful professional development. To ensure the continual enhancement of the program, we have implemented periodic assessments aimed at soliciting feedback and identifying areas for improvement.

We warmly welcome applications from medical students, residents and faculty members in both radiation oncology and medical physics who share our vision and commitment to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in our field.

If you are interested in becoming a mentor or mentee, please join here! For additional questions please contact Rehema Thomas, Associate Vice Chair for Mentorship.

Volunteer to Speak with Medical Students
ASTRO will have a table at the American Medical Student Association meeting in Crystal City, Virginia, May 30 - 31. We seek two volunteers each day from the Metro DC region to speak with medical students about careers in radiation oncology. The exhibit hall is open each day from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. ASTRO will cover parking/meals. If you or a colleague are interested, please email Jeff White.

Call for volunteers: Shaping the future of radiation oncology education!
Building on the 2023 study by Jeans et al. published in IJROBP, we're embarking on the next phase! We're calling for dedicated volunteers to define and describe Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) for U.S. radiation oncology. The study, led by ROECSG, employed a deliberative process with diverse stakeholders to define EPAs and curricular content domains in radiation oncology. Now, we need your help to delve deeper into those critical competencies and develop a workbook to serve as a blueprint for stakeholders such as residency programs and licensing bodies.

Contact Mustafa Basree to join our team and/or if you have any questions. Depending on the extent of contribution, writers will be listed in the EPA/curriculum book published to ROECSG's website.

Med Student Q&A
Help us to promote the upcoming Medical Student Q&A on May 29 at 8:00 p.m. Medical students will have the opportunity to meet faculty and resident radiation oncologists and ask any questions they have about how radiation is used to treat cancer, career paths within the specialty, research opportunities, the residency application process and tips for being a competitive applicant. This month’s Q&A will be hosted by Christian Okoye, MD, from Mercy Medical Center in Boston and Emily MacDuffie, MD, for University of Pennsylvania. Learn more about the bi-monthly Med Student Q&A.
