Biographical Statement

Dr. Nima Nabavizadeh is an Associate Professor of Radiation Medicine at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), where he holds multiple roles in patient care, cutting-edge research and medical education. Dr. Nabavizadeh specializes in the treatment of gastrointestinal cancers, liver cancers, lymphomas and leukemias.

Dr. Nabavizadeh's commitment to advancing cancer care extends beyond clinical practice. In his role as the Chief Medical Officer within the Cancer Early Detection Advanced Research Center (CEDAR) at OHSU, he is at the forefront of innovative early detection research initiatives. He serves as the Principal Investigator for a multitude of cancer early detection clinical trials, exploring novel strategies and technologies for identifying cancer at its earliest stages.

Most importantly, Dr. Nabavizadeh has a strong interest in undergraduate and graduate medical education. Dr. Nabavizadeh is the Residency Program Director for the OHSU Radiation Oncology Program, a leadership role he has held since 2018. Prior to this role, he served as the department Medical Student Clerkship Director. For the American Board of Radiology, Dr. Nabavizadeh has served as both a Lymphoma Oral Board Examiner and Lymphoma Written Exam Editor since 2023. Dr. Nabavizadeh’s experience working closely with residents has given him a deep understanding of the unique challenges they face, from managing the rigorous demands of radiation oncology training to balancing personal well-being. He is committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment where every trainee feels empowered to reach their full potential. By identifying early signs of struggle and implementing tailored support systems, Dr. Nabavizadeh aims to ensure that each resident has the resources and guidance they need to succeed.

Dr. Nabavizadeh was born and raised in Norman, Oklahoma, the home of the University of Oklahoma. Beyond his professional endeavors, Dr. Nabavizadeh's heart lies with the great outdoors. His companion for these escapades is a vintage 1990 VW campervan, which has been transformed into a symbol of wanderlust and family adventures. As a hands-on enthusiast, he spends his downtime working on the mechanical intricacies of the campervan, ensuring that it's always ready for the next adventure.
