Reshma Jagsi, MD, DPhil, FASTRO, is the Lawrence W. Davis Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology and a Senior Faculty Fellow in the Center for Ethics at Emory University. She is internationally recognized for her research to strengthen autonomy in breast cancer patients and to individualize breast cancer care. She also investigates the underrepresentation of women in senior management positions in academic medicine and how the field can better promote equity.
Dr. Jagsi acknowledges the impact of her mentor Nancy Tarbell, MD, FASTRT, who helped guide her when she first began in the field of radiation oncology. Her mentorship with Dr. Tarbell plays a huge role in how she approaches her mentorship now. As a department chair, Dr. Jagsi has been a role model for many trainees and residents. She makes an effort to use her position as a mentor to create more equity in the field. “Dr. Jagsi was a major champion and founding mentor of the group that I cofounded, the Society for Women in Radiation Oncology. Downstream effects of her involvement have led toward starting to bridge the networking and mentorship gaps in our field,” says one of her mentees.
