ARPA-H awards $115 million for cancer research
October 16, 2023
The Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health’s (ARPA-H) announced three major research grants totaling $115 million for cancer research detection and treatment projects. These research projects support the Administration’s Cancer Moonshot goals of decreasing cancer deaths and improving the quality of life for patients. ASTRO supports increased funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Cancer Institute (NCI) and ARPA-H for programs focused on cancer treatment and prevention.
Congress has not yet finalized funding for NIH, NCI, CDC, ARPA-H, and other government-funded research programs, as a final budget agreement for FY2024 and FY2025 has not yet been reached. The government is operating under a continuing resolution (CR) through November 17. Time is critical and while House and Senate appropriators continue work to pass legislation, with no House Speaker, and no top-line funding agreement between Chambers, it is increasingly likely Congress will need to pass another CR or face shutdown again in November.
