APEx RPT designation

ASTRO's APEx – Accreditation Program for Excellence has a radiopharmaceutical therapy-specific designation. This new offering is designed to recognize your practice for staying at the cutting edge of radiation oncology while maintaining alignment with national standards. As treatments and technologies evolve, ASTRO remains committed to keeping APEx adaptable and in sync with the changing landscape.

The introduction of RPT-specific accreditation reflects this commitment, offering practices an opportunity to enhance their services and gain recognition among the community, field and pharmaceutical companies for their expertise. Interested practices may pursue this new designation as a stand-alone accreditation or combined with the larger APEx program. Contact APEx to learn more.

What is involved?

The standard APEx assessment includes a comprehensive review of all modalities, including RPT. The program reviews:

  • regulatory licensing
  • processes
  • standardized documentation
  • appropriate personnel
  • safe staffing levels
  • modality-specific training requirements

For RPT, the assessment also includes safe storage and handling, appropriate patient areas and more.

The add-on accreditation follows the normal APEx evaluation criteria and includes a separate accreditation plaque, materials and publicity for the RPT designation.

How do we apply?

Practices seeking the the RPT designation have two choices:

  1. Add it to an existing APEx accreditation - Practices seeking APEx through an initial or reaccreditation process may add the RPT assessment during the registration process.
  2. Complete the process as a stand-alone assessment - Practices can pursue the program as a standalone, single-modality assessment, following the standard registration procedures.

What does it cost?

The added accreditation for APEx-accredited practices is $1000. The extra cost covers the additional materials received by the facility.

The standalone accreditation is $5,000 which includes surveyor expenses and additional materials received by the facility.
