On September 5, ASTRO submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on the 2025 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) and Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (HOPPS) proposed rules.

For the MPFS, ASTRO’s comments emphasized that major reforms to the MPFS are needed and highlighted ASTRO’s Radiation Oncology Case Rate (ROCR) Value Based Program Act, which was introduced in both the House and Senate this year. The comments also included responses to the Agency’s proposal to remove CPT code 77427, Radiation tx management x5, from the Medicare Telehealth List, as well as responses to various requests for information. For HOPPS, ASTRO’s comments focused on the issues with the Agency’s Comprehensive Ambulatory Payment Classification (C-APC) methodology, and responses to proposals to change the review timeframe for the prior authorization process and for separate payments for diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals.
