ASTRO joins physician groups opposing scope of practice expansion for non-physicians
November 3, 2022
ASTRO and more than 80 physician organizations sent congressional leaders a letter opposing legislation that would allow non-physician practitioners to expand their scope of practice and removing physician involvement in patient care. The Improving Care and Access to Nurses Act (HR 8812) would endanger the quality of care for Medicare and Medicaid patients and could result in increased utilization of services and increased costs, the letter said. The letter cited the increased education and training of physicians and the negative consequences of removing physicians from the care team in opposition to the bill.
