ASTRO sends letter to White House supporting Cancer Moonshot initiative

On April 19, ASTRO sent a letter to President Biden reiterating the Society’s support and outlining industry expertise as an essential partner in the Cancer Moonshot initiative. The letter outlines radiation oncology’s advances and dedication to patient treatment, outcomes and equitable access to care. It reemphasizes to the White House that radiation oncology is a major component of whole patient care. The letter discusses emerging advancements in radiation oncology, such as artificial intelligence-enabled precision radiotherapy, radiopharmaceuticals, radiation-immunotherapeutic combinations, ultra-high dose rate (FLASH) radiotherapy, proton/particle therapy and survivorship care.
ASTRO’s letter also highlights radiation oncology’s capacity to help cut the cancer death rate by 50% over the next 25 years and how the Society represents a highly-skilled and dedicated workforce essential to the Cancer Moonshot initiative.
