Conflict of Interest Policies
The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) is dedicated to improving patient care through education, clinical practice, advancement of science and advocacy.
As a Society of professionals, ASTRO seeks to maintain the undisputed primacy of certain ethical interests: that the best interest of the patient is served in our clinical practice and advocacy, that educational activities are independent unbiased forums, that scientific studies and papers are conducted, reported and assessed on their merit with transparent intellectual rigor, and that the leadership of the Society give primacy to the interests of the Society in all matters relating to ASTRO.
ASTRO's COI Policy
Dealing with conflict of interest is a shared responsibility between the organization and the individual as they seek to fulfill their fiduciary duties to the organization and its members.
Standards for ASTRO Leadership
To ensure the highest standard of integrity for the Society, the ASTRO Board has established additional standards for ASTRO Leadership.
Research Funding Policy
Many ASTRO volunteers obtain research funding from commercial, non-profit and governmental interests and ASTRO requests this information its disclosure statement.
Stock Ownership Policy
ASTRO requests information regarding the volunteer’s ownership of stock and stock options in entities “related to ASTRO, to any commercial interest, or to research, treatment, practice or education in the health care sector” on its Disclosure Statement.
Review for Formal Papers
ASTRO conducts a COI review of all panel members and expert reviewers for ASTRO Formal Papers in accordance with ASTRO’s COI Policies.
