Clinical Trials

This year's Clinical Trials session focused on advances in radiation therapy that offer promising new treatments for hard-to-treat cancers and some potential changes to standards of care.

Presidential Symposium

Howard Sandler, MD, MS, FASTRO, ASTRO President introduced this year’s topic as GU cancers, noting his presidential prerogative to designate an exploration of three areas: prostate, renal and bladder cancers.

SAPHIRE Trial

Karen Hoffman, MD, FASTRO, (MDACC) presented the results of the Phase III SAPHIRE Trial, which randomized 324 locally advanced breast cancer patients for hypo (HF)- vs. conventionally fractionated (CF) RNI. 

Lymphedema in Hypofractionated NRI

After surgery, controlling locoregional breast cancer with radiotherapy is a key step for disease control.

Preventing ED Visits for Cancer Patients

The authors conducted a quality improvement project implementing a High ED/Admission Risk Therapy (HEART) protocol.
