ETC Structure, Subcommittees and Key Tasks

Emerging Technology Committee (ETC)

  • Evaluate new and emerging technology and new and evolving procedures that impact the practice or the science of radiation oncology.
  • Establish ETC priorities.
  • Develop practices and procedures for ETC.
  • Monitor progress of ongoing ETC evaluations.
  • Assign responsibilities to appropriate subcommittees.
  1. Monitoring Subcommittee (MSC)
    • Create a mechanism to identify and track new and emerging technologies with the potential to affect radiation oncology.
    • Recommend new assessment projects to the Steering Subcommittee.
    • Consider requests for assessments from outside the ETC.
    • Monitor literature on emerging devices or procedures.
    • Compare completed ETC reports with the most recent data to determine whether reports require updates. 
  2. Evaluation Subcommittee (ESC)
    • Establish assessment mechanism(s) for identified technologies.
    • Assist stakeholders in study of new and emerging technologies to evaluate safety and efficacy of new technology.
    • establish criteria for investigation, review and reporting
    • Establish task groups for specific evaluation projects.
    • Prepare initial evaluation reports for ETC review.
