About ASTRO’s Emerging Technology Committee (ETC)
Mission
To provide a proactive resource for all stakeholders: ASTRO members and staff, industry, patients, commercial payers, healthcare organizations, and government, in the application and integration of new and emerging technologies and new and evolving procedures into the practice of radiation oncology.
Overview
The ASTRO Board of Directors formed the Emerging Technology Committee (ETC) in 2005 to educate the Society and its various stakeholders about emerging technologies that affect the practice of radiation oncology. Given that therapeutic radiology is intimately concerned with technology development, implementation and utilization, the Board felt compelled to increase the Society’s role in assisting its stakeholders with information useful in the consideration of, and development of policies and programs related to, new and emerging technologies. Accordingly, the ETC was formed to provide objective, balanced, accurate, comprehensive and timely technology assessments to its members and stakeholders on medical devices and procedures that may be utilized for the benefit of patients. ETC operations shall be conducted to foster achievement of this objective.
The policies and procedures set out for the ETC and its operations are for guidance and information. ASTRO does not make any promise or commitment to third parties that the ETC will in all instances operate in the manner set forth below.
