The Health Policy Council’s mission is to enhance patient care, the practice of medicine, economics and health policy. ASTRO’s Health Policy Department works in coordination with many outside sources, such as the American Medical Association’s Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) Editorial Panel and the AMA/Specialty Society Relative Value System Update Committee (RBRVS), to develop and assign relative value units to radiation oncology CPT codes. Health policy is responsible for commenting on policy issues such as the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS), Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (HOPPS)/Ambulatory Payment Classifications (APC) and other radiation oncology coverage, reimbursement and fraud and abuse issues.
