ASTRO celebrated its 50th Anniversary during the Annual Meeting in 2008. The festivities included an educational session led by members of the History Committee that took place Tuesday, September 23, 2008. At the session, titled History of Radiation Oncology - Evolution of ASTRO: 1958-2008, the presenters discussed the time and work of the volunteer leaders who created and developed ASTRO as the voice of radiation oncology during the last 50 years and taught attendees about the landmark contributions made by medical physicists and radiation biologists in close collaboration with physician colleagues in advancing the practice of radiation oncology and the image of ASTRO by incorporating technological advances in image and treatment delivery.
